That doesn’t have a cut-and-dry answer. Legally yes, everyone can have a home birth. That doesn’t mean everyone SHOULD have a home birth. We do not follow or support the dangerous idea that hospital transfer is bad and you should stay at home and have your baby no matter what.
No, is the short answer. I offer my services to low-risk birthing people who express a deep desire to have their babies at home.
If both the midwife and client work to make it safe, absolutely. That doesn’t mean every home birth is safe. Large-scale studies have shown that when birthing people are attended by well-trained midwives who focus on the best outcomes birth has better outcomes.
Yes! I had 3 of my babies in a birth pool. We do have single-use inflatable pools for sale by paradise pools. You can also choose to rent or buy a different pool.
During pregnancy there are conditions that are not compatible with delivery at home. Each case is different. During labor I would go with you acting as your doula to pass on your chart and answer questions from staff, if you wish.
Autonomy at birth is a pillar of my practice. I discuss the benefits of seeing an OBGYN with all potential clients. I would prefer that everyone get co-care, but I don’t force my preference on clients.
I accept cash, credit cards, and most payment apps and will barter for a portion of services.
I am happy to discuss these and the many other reasons people seek an out-of-hospital experience. There are many factors to consider for safety.
I wish! FSA is possible. As of this time in PA, insurance does not pay for traditional services in your home.
